Cinema Paradiso
|
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church is showing a series of five films showing a progression of history via Italian films.
The film that will be shown at the Church Hall, 3541 Navajo Street , Denver starting at 3:00 PM is Cinema Paradiso [1988: Giuseppe Tornatore; Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 1989].
For those who have never seen GiuseppeTornatore's masterpiece ŗCinema Paradiso˛ we invite and offer you the opportunity to view it with us. It is unquestionably a "must see" film, widely regarded as one of the best foreign language films ever to grace American screens. In Cinema Paradiso director Tornatore displays his skills and excites our emotions. This film is sometimes funny, sometimes joyful, and sometimes poignant, but it's always satisfying, warm and wonderful. Cinema Paradiso will affect you on many levels, but its strongest connection is with our memories.
We relate to Salvatore's story not just because he's a likable character, but because we relive our own childhood movie experiences through him. There has always been a certain magic associated with the simple act of projecting a movie on a screen. Tornatore taps into this mystique, that is one reason you will find Cinema Paradiso a great motion picture experience.
Substituting for Dr. Vincent Pitturro, in the critique and discussion that follows, will be Michel Mc Lane, who has just returned from three weeks in Italy.
The Italian pop corn substitute are bread sticks from Pasquinišs Highlands, Italian Lemonade and Gaetanošs Italian Salsa. A donation of $10 per person will be appreciated.
