Festival Italiano at Belmar
The fifth annual Festival Italiano—Food and Wine Festival at Belmar will feature over 70 Italian food, wine, and artisan vendors in an outdoor market setting. Activities for the entire family including chef demos, wine seminars, live music and dancing, bocce tournament, Balistreri Vineyard's Children's Grape Stomp, flag throwers from Florence, world champion pizza dough tosser, Italian lessons and more. Grape-stomping, wine-making
The IABA 3rd Annual Grape-stomping, wine-making event is being held on Friday, September 26th at Mrs. Condies Salad Company at 3225 Denargo Street in Denver. The cost is $10.00 per person. The event starts at 6:00 PM. For more information, call 303.973.1978.

Heritage Month Kickoff Celebration
The kickoff for Colorado Italian American Heritage Month will be held from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM at Mount St. Vincent Home located at 4159 Lowell Blvd. near West 42nd Ave. With its rich Italian history since 1883, it is a fitting location to launch the October 2008 celebration. Bill Roth will give a talk about the home's mission to serve children and families and its involvement with the Italian American community. A tour of the home will be given, followed with refreshments and an opportunity to informally meet Maria Scordo Allen, Honorary Vice Consul of Italy, and members of the Colorado Italian American Heritage Month Committee. The public is welcome to attend. Because space is limited, please contact the Planning Committee to reserve a seat.

Bocce Tournament
Italians of America and Fiori D'Italia are hosting a bocce tournament and a spaghetti dinner (see next calendar listing) to celebrate Italian heritage month. Proceeds from these events will go to underdog charities and St. Catherine's Grade School. The tournament, which will be limited to 16 teams, will be held at Mickey's Top Sirloin at East 70th Avenue and Broadway. Registration starts at 7:00 AM and the tournament starts at 8:00 AM. The cost is $20.00 per person and lunch is provided for registered players.

Spaghetti Dinner
Italians of America and Fiori D'Italia are hosting a spaghetti dinner and a bocce tournament (see previous calendar listing) to celebrate Italian heritage month. The dinner will be held from 6:00 PM until 11:00 PM at the Perl Mack Community Center, 7125 Mariposa Street in Denver. The cost is $10.00 per person, and the cost for children 3-12 is $5.00 each. Dinner will be spaghetti with sausage and meatball, salad, dessert, and drinks. There will be fun, music, door prize drawings—a great time for family, friends and neighbors to get together and celebrate our Italian heritage.

"Celebrating Italy through a Messa da Requiem"
A special symposium about Guiseppe Verdi and Italy in the 19th century is being presented by the Division of University Events and the Division of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Denver.

There are two parts to the symposium. The keynote speaker at the symposium on October 9th will be Dr. Philip Gossett, renowned Italian opera scholar and the Robert W. Reneker Distinguished Service Professor of Music at the University of Chicago. Tickets for the Oct. 9th event can be purchased for $15 at the Newman Center Box Office and for $15 plus fees through Ticketmaster and any Ticketmaster outlet. The second part is a Symposium given on the 10th of October by five distinguished DU professors, and tickets also may be purchased for $15.  Alternatively, a package ticket to both events is available for $25.

Columbus Day Regatta
The annual Columbus Day Regatta will be held at Chatfield Reservoir on Oct. 11th and 12th. Start time is 11:00 AM each day.

Directions: For the main entrance to Chatfield Reservoir, take C-470 to Wadsworth; go south one mile to park entrance. Admission (without a State Park Pass) is $7 daily per car. Follow signs to the swin beach and view the regatta on the beaches on either side of the swin beach which is closed.

Georgetown Loop Train Ride
In recognition of Columbus Day and Colorado Italian American Heritage Month, special fares and free sausage sandwiches are being offered by the Georgetown Loop Railroad for the 2:55 PM train that departs from Devil's Gate on Oct. 12. Verdi's Requiem
Verdi's Requiem will be performed by the London Symphony Corus and the Lamont Symphony Orchestra at the Newman Center at the University of Denver on October 15th and 16th. Tickets are available at the Newman Center Box Office and through Ticketmaster and any Ticketmaster outlet. Giuseppe Garibaldi Day
In his Proclamation that officially proclaimed October 2008 as Italian Heritage Month, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper officially recognized October 18, 2008 as Colorado's First Annual Garibaldi Day in honor of Giuseppe Garibaldi.

In recognition of Garibaldi Day, a gala fundraiser had been planned to benefit Flight For Life Colorado. Unfortunately, the fundraiser has been postponed by St. Anthony Health Foundation, and time did not permit the scheduling of an alternate event.

Wine Tasting
Sons of Italy, Grand Lodge
Sons of Italy Denver Lodge is having a wine tasting on Sunday October 19th from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Hall, 32nd and Harlan in Wheat Ridge. Polenta Fest/Dance/Fundraiser
Hosted by Tirolesi Trentini del Colorado.
The event will be held at the Sons of Italy Hall, located at 32nd & Harlan in Wheat Ridge. Scopa & Briscola Mini Scholarship Fundraiser

Hosted by Il Circolo Italiano.
Discover the laughter and fun of the Italian card games Scopa and Briscola. The games are easy to learn, but most of all they are fun, and tutors will be available. Enjoy hors d'oeuvres and wine. Italian homemade cookies also will be sold.
